1948 hat Peretz Markisch das Theaterstück “Der König von Lampedusa” in 3 Akten, 6 Bildern geschrieben. Es hat eine Erlaubnis von “Glawrepertkom” bekommen und wurde zur Aufführung am GOSET (Staatliches Jüdisches Theater, Moskau) angenommen. Das Theaterstück wurde nicht veröffentlicht und wird in RGALI (Russisches Staatliches Archiv für Literatur und Kunst) gelagert (Fond 656, Opis’ 5, Delo 5153). Das Theaterstück beruht auf wahrer Begebenheit. Am 12. Juni 1943 hat Sydney Cohen, ein 22-jähriger brittischer Pilot, sich auf seinem Weg zur britischen Militäbasis auf Malta verirrt – und ist auf der kleinen Insel Lampedusa notgelandet. Die italienische Garnison, die sich auf der Insel befand und bis dahin an keinen Kriegshandlungen teilgenommen hatte, hat sich dem verwunderten Sergeant Cohen ergeben. Am gleichen Tag sind auf Lampedusa hundert brittische Soldaten gelandet und haben die Insel erobert. Der Vorfall wurde bald ein Lieblingsthema für jüdische Zeitungen, und schon am 13. Juni hat die Zeitung “News Chronicle” Sydney Cohen “Der König von Lampedusa” genannt. Charles Horendorf, Korrespondent von “Morgn-Journal”, hat ein gleichnamiges Theaterstück geschrieben, das ein Paar Monate später in New York als Musical aufgeführt wurde. Das Musical wurde auch ins Hebräische übersetzt und im Theater “Matate” in Tel Aviv gespielt – und 1944 hat Sydney Cohen auch sich die Vorstellung angesehen. 1946-1948 schreibt Peretz Markisch sein Opus Magnum über den zweiten Weltkrieg – den Roman “Trot fun doyres” – und den poetischen Epos “Milkhome”. Gleichzeitig arbeitet er fürs Staatliche jüdische Theater und verfasst drei Theaterstücke über den Krieg: “Der ufstand in getto” (1946), “Moskve mayn” (1947) und – 1948 – “Der Kenig fun Lampeduza”. Sydney Cohen heisst im Theaterstück von Markisch Dave Globus. Das Sujet des Theaterstück ist kaum glaubwüdig. Dave Globus erobert Lampedusa zusammen mit dem Radisten Charles und dem Piloten Jack – und befreit zwei faschistishe Konzentrationslager: für Juden und für russische Kriegsgefangene. Charles und Jack sind ideologisch noch unreif – und versuchen, marodeurische Taten zu begehen, aber Globus stellt sie ab: “Hast du gehört, wie russische Soldaten geben ihre Ration den Kindern, wenn sie ein Dorf oder eine Stadt befreien?” – sagt er zu Jack. Das Hauptthema des Theaterstücks sind die angespannten internationalen Beziehungen, vor allem – zwischen den Alliierten. Markisch kritisiert Grobritannien scharf für Antisemitismus und antisowjetische Politik. Der Radist Charles bekommt die Nachricht, dass das Kommando befiehlt, Globus vor das Militärgericht zu stellen – für unerlaubte Befreiung des Kontzentrationslagers für russische Kriegsgefangene. Zusammen mit einem Kriegsgefangenen flüchtet Globus mit einem Boot in die UdSSR über Jugoslavien. Diese Nachricht begeistert seine Eltern, Londoner Schneider, die unter Antisemitismus leiden und glauben, dass nur in der Sowjet-Union Juden davon frei sein können. In meinem Referat wird das Theaterstück “Der Kenig fun Lampeduza” analysiert und im Kontext von anderen Werken von Markisch über den zweiten Weltkrieg, die Markisch nach dem Krieg, sowie während des Krieges geschrieben hat, betrachtet.
