Аннотация:The digitalization of the contemporary economy in the context of the coming era of the industrial revolution 4.0 is the irreversible process that radically changes the activities of companies in different countries, regions and international economic unions. Essentially the digitalization of economy is one of the consequences of the globalization of a world economic system. The author proceeds from the fact that the level of digitalization of economies is a competitive advantage of the countries and the international economic unions. The purpose of the article is to analyze the impact of the digital economy on the business activities of contemporary organizations, or more precisely to research the issues of digitalization of the Russian companies.The research is interdisciplinary and it involves concepts, theories and approaches from economics, digital studies, marketing and social philosophy. The empirical base of the study was the data and statistics from the websites of various Russian and international companies, organizations (McKinsey, OECD, Gartner, KPMG, Rosstat, etc.), as well as publications containing expert’s assessments and analytical reports. The methodology used for the paper is the review of the literature on the relationship of the digital economy (more than twenty literature sources were consulted). For this goal, contemporary academic literature has been analyzed including online resources. The complexity of the research issue determines the appeal to such method as system-structural analyses. The author’s literature review reveals the theoretic trends of the investigation of digital economy are in the process of formation in view of the novelty of the analyzed phenomenon and the lack of knowledge of the social issues of the consequences of economic digitalization. The author uses comparison method to analyze the list of 10 economically disruptive technologies (McKinsey, 2013) and 12 breakthrough technologies (MIT Technology Review, 2019). Russian companies are faced with a choice between old and new business models of value creation. It is revealed that the influence and impact of the using of breakthrough technologies can be positive and negative, depending on the number of moderating variables. The one of the key suggestions is that the emergence of digital technologies forces modern companies to form new business models of value creation. One of the results of the research is the provision on the need to change the business strategies of modern Russian companies, taking into account the transition to the business model of the circular economy in the future. According to author’s opinion, the most important issues are that how Russian companies shape business-model in the context of digital economy and how much they will be open to the adaptation to the future business model of the cyclic economy. The openness to others ideas and views can help different managers to resolve their strategy’s problems and complement each other. The practical application of the research could be in the framework of recommendations about necessary for current Russian business to revise old business models. In addition, managers should pay more attention to solving socially significant problems related to the field of ecology, life safety, development and education of personnel. To resolve strategic problems in the field of economic digitalization one should arrange an academic discussion angering the experts the cyclic economy. This paper is one of the views towards a development of further discussion of the transformation of business models of Russian companies, which is an inevitable response to the challenges of globalization in the face of the digital economy.
