Biodegradable polymers such as polylactide and poly-ε-caprolactone are widely used in food industry and in surgery due to their biodegradability and biocompatibility. They can be obtained via ring-opening polymerization using metal complexes of Al, Zn, Ti and other metals as initiators. For example, zinc complexes with N,O-donor ligands have been found to be particularly efficient as ring-opening polymerization catalysts. So we have synthesized a number of pyridine-containing monoalcohols and corresponding zinc complexes bearing ethyl or N[(SiMe)3]2 group by reaction with ZnEt2 or Zn[N(SiMe3)2]2. For two ligands only bis-ligated complexes are formed even when the ratio of ligand and Zn[N(SiMe3)2]2 is 1:1. Reaction between dialkylenetriamines and AlMe3 afforded complexes, containing methyl group at the Al atom. Reaction between Ti(O-iPr)4 and pyridine dialcohols led to titanium complexes with isopropoxy groups. Some complexes were tested in polymerization of ε-CL and L-LA. Structure of the six complexes were investigated in the solid state by X-ray analysis. We thank RFBR for support (12-03-00206а). Book of abstracts, p.189 (oral presentation).
