Nikita Yakovlevich Bichurin was the greatest Russian sinologist of the 19th century, who made most of his work for the elucidation of the history of the Central Asian regions and made a significant contribution to it. His scientific research was not limited to Chinese history, but also helped the scientific community to obtain new information about the history and culture of the Huns, Turks, Mongols and Tibetans. Because of this, some Chinese researchers have complained about the considerable lack of research on Bichurin's history. Bichurin differs from his Chinese contemporaries in that he has studied the history of prominent Central and Inner Asian countries in great detail. Another important difference of his was his critical approach to the literature he used, thus preventing as much as possible researchers and readers interested in the history of Central and Inner Asia.
