This book is devoted to various aspects of the experimental study of polarization phenomena in particle physics, concentrating mainly on the discussion of spin effects in nucleon-nucleon and nucleon-deuteron collisions. However, some of the most important issues, related to the production of beams of polarized particles and the measurements of beam polarizations as well as polarizations of produced particles are relevant for experimentalists working with other incident particles. In particular, many of the problems connected with the use of polarized targets for experiments with pion, electron or photon beams are also common with those of nucleon-nucleon. The book is based on the vast knowledge and experience gained by F. Lehar over the course of his almost fifty years working in the area. It is therefore addressed primarily to young experimentalists starting in the field. It can be used as an additional textbook in universities.
