Аннотация:This paper examines the methodological aspects of teaching Serbian as a foreign language to adult Russian-speaking learners. It provides a brief overview of the historical development of teaching methodologies for Russian speakers and describes their current state. Particular attention is paid to the challenges that have emerged due to the growinginterest in learning Serbian, including a shortage of qualified instructors, inadequate teaching materials, limited awareness of teachers’ professional competences, and a lack of coordination among institutions involved in Serbian language instruction.A key methodological issue is the uncritical application of general foreign language teaching methods without regard for the structural and cultural specificities of learners. This paper highlights the benefits of a targeted and integrated approach based on learner-centered instruction, an understanding of Russian-Serbian linguistic and cultural contrasts, and the use of appropriate teaching materials. Successful learning outcomes depend on the proper distribution of methodological emphasis and systematic efforts to prevent linguistic interference at the levels of phonetics, morphology, syntax, lexicon, and pragmatics. The study also presents examples of potential learner errors and recommends strategies for more effective and accelerated acquisition of linguistic rules. Special attention ispaid to the andragogical dimension of teaching, particularly the unique challenges of working with adult learners and the psychological factors that influence language acquisition. The proposed recommendations have practical applications in language instruction and contribute to the improvement of teacher training in andragogy, the advancement of Serbian as a foreign language methodology, the teaching of closely related languages, instruction in specific language pairs, Slavic language pedagogy, general teaching methodology, and further research into the linguistic aspects of Slavic languages. Keywords: Serbian as a foreign language, methodology of teaching Serbian, Russian speakers, adult learners, course-based teaching, andragogy, interference.
