For ceramic precursor powder comprising orthophosphate (Са3(РО4)2), pyrophosphate (Са2Р2О7) and calcium polyphosphate (Са(РО3)2) we used the reaction of calcium propionate with solutions containing pyro- and polyphosphate ions. According to the powder X-ray diffraction data, hydrated tricalcium phosphate and brushite powders were prepared from calcium propionate and ammonium phosphate at the appropriate pH in the reaction; hydrated calcium pyrophosphate was obtained from calcium propionate and pyrophosphoric acid in the presence of ammonia; amorphous hydrated calcium polyphosphate was obtained from calcium propionate and polyphosphoric acid in the presence of ammonia. After the heat treatment in the range 500-1000oС powder phase composition was represented with various biocompatible and bioresorbable calcium phosphate phases: beta-calcium pyrophosphate, troemelite and beta-calcium polyphosphate. Photomicrographs, acquired with SEM, indicated the resulting nano-sized structure of the obtained ceramic samples, varying from 50 to 300 nm.
