Аннотация:Fe-doped ZnS (Fe:ZnS) crystals and ceramics are used as active IR laser
media. To achieve the advanced laser properties, the reliable data on the Fe
concentration and material synthesis conditions is essential. In this study,
we invetstigated the Fe solubility in nonstoichiometric ZnS crystals under
bivariant equilibrium conditions of SZnS-SFeS-V. Sixty seven isothermal TX-
Y cross-sections of Zn-S-Fe ternary system were analyzed by the
graphical thermodynamics technique and were proved by X-ray analysis
using the «frozen equilibrium» technique. The ternary system was analyzed,
from the entire melting to the complete solidification. The synthesis
conditions of Fe:ZnS preparation were determined based on the
corresponding cross-sections in a temperature range of 1173 to1323 K. The
nonstoichiometry of ZnS crystal was determined by the «extraction»
method [1]. The Fe concentration was measured by the ICP-MS analysis.
The results showed that the Fe solubility in nonstoichiometric ZnS reaches
its maximum value at 1273 K, attaining a concentration of 610-3 wt. % at
nearly stoichiometric composition (510-10 mole excess Zn/mole ZnS). The
effects of nonstoichiometry and the Fe concentration on the mid-IR
properties of Fe: ZnS were also established. According to the obtained IR
luminescent properties the synthesized ZnS.Fe is perspective for laser
application.
