Аннотация:The article deals with less studied problems of the present-day channel and bank morphodynamics of the Selenga River delta. Intense accumulation of river sediments within the subaerial delta results in the unstable channel network and rapid horizontal and vertical deformations of the channel. The analysis of topographic maps and space imagery for the period of 1701-2000 has shown the irregular forward move of the sea edge of the delta. The greatest growth of the delta is recorded in its north-eastern sector (66 mm per year); the western sector has shown the lowest growth while the northern one is dynamically balanced. The rise of the Baikal Lake level after the construction of the Irkutsk hydroelectric power station has lead to the increased wave impact on the sea edge of the delta and its partial inundation, thus ceasing the forward movement of the deltaic cone into the lake.
