Аннотация:Permeabilization of the outer mitochondrial membrane is а physiological process that can allow certain molecules to pass through it, such as low molecular weight solutes required for cellular respiration. This process is also important for the development of various modes of cell death. Depending on the severity of this process, cells can die by autophagy, apoptosis, or necrosis/necroptosis. Distinct types of pores can be opened at the outer mitochondrial membrane depending on physiological or pathological stimuli, and different mechanisms can be activated in order to open these pores. In this comprehensive review, all these types of permeabilization, the mechanisms of their activation, and their role in various diseases are discussed.
