Аннотация:Results of analysis of maps of baric fields for levels from 500 to 0. 4 mbar are presented. Major attention is devoted to investigation of the vertical structure of the previously discovered traveling planetary Rossby wave with a period close to 27 days during the winter of 1972-1973. It is found that the wave attenuates sharply above 10 mbar. The use of the modified tide theory lets us show that this attenuation may be related to 'cooling into space', and to understand the observed sharp attenuation of the wave with altitude we must consider the influence of photochemical reactions on infrared cooling.
