Аннотация:Room temperature phosphosercence method was applied to air-dry pea seeds in order tp extract a seed fraction producing abnormal seedlings with impaired cell division from low vigour seed lot.
Hypoxic conditions under seed coat arise as a result of the rapid imbibition of these II fraction seeds, and an enhancement of oxygen uptake uncompensated by oxygen diffusion, being accompanied by the generation of seed porphyrin phosphorescence. Neither the imbibition damage at the first stage of the water uptake, nor hypoxic conditions suppressed the DNA replication in meristematic cells.
Both the cessation of the DNA replication manifested by the termination of the of 4C/2C ratio increase and DNA framentatiom took place only after radicle protrusion and aeration of imbibing seeds of fraction II are compleyed. Chemiluminescence measurements showed the post-hypoxic increase in the amount of reactive oxygen species generated by embryo. It was proposed that post-hypoxic oxidative stress was the cause of cell division disturbance and appearance of abnormal seedlings.
