Аннотация:This article briefly introduces remote sensing and GIS as analytical tools and reviews some applications of these technologies in studying the effects of environmental and biophysical factors on crop yields. Techniques for processing information from high-resolution, multi-temporal, multispectral images are proposed to ascertain the environmental indicators and biophysical constraints of cropland. Different types of images have different spectral, spatial, and temporal characteristics that suit them for various applications and ecosystem characteristics but, at the same time, require appropriate processing. As an example, data from satellites and UAVs may be used to determine species composition and health of crops and to predict yields as demonstrated by a case study of wheat production in Krasnodar. These research findings also contribute to the implementation of sustainable development.
