Аннотация:The physical regularities of implementing the electrostatic instability of a flat charged surface of a noncompressible viscous conducting liquid are considered for the case of a pool of finite dimensions where the spectrum of emerging capillary waves is discrete. The critical conditions for the onset of the electrostatic instability of an uncompressible viscous conductive liquid in a pool of finite dimen-sions are shown to coincide with those for a boundless surface of an infinitely deep ideal uncompressible liquid (coincide with the conditions for implementing Tonks–Frenkel instability). This makes it possible to experimentally verify the criterion for implementing Tonks–Frenkel instability using pools of finite dimensions without introducing qualitative errors.
