Аннотация:Conditions for the onset of the postcritical deformation stage were considered in special cases of uniaxial tension with torsion for specimens with softening regions. Proportional tension-torsion tests were performed for thin-walled tubular specimens of structure steels (steel 20 and steel 40X) for various relations between the axial and shear strains. Some experimental data about deformation softening of steels in question were obtained under the conditions of complex stress state. It was shown that under combined loading conditions the softening process evolves differently for different deformation components. Softening may occur for some components of the deformation process, while strengthening takes place for the other components. The obtained data testify that, for the considered materials and deformation curves, there is a significant discrepancy between the time instants at which the extremum values of the normal and tangential stresses are attained in the transition to the postcritical deformation stage, while the instants at which softening begins, determined by tests related to the values of the stress intensity, the maximum tangential stress, and the postcritical deformation test considered above, are very close to each other.
