Аннотация:This review briefs the relevant published data on the current insight into forest soils in the Europeannorth of Russia. The role of soils in the forest ecosystems is analyzed. The historical aspects in the study of various factors that influence the changes in forest soils of the region are clarified, as well as the changes inthe soil areas that have been involved in forest harvesting and wildfires. The changes in the areas of the soils withdrawn from agricultural use in the second half of the 20th century and first decades of the 21st century are reported. Unlike the situation in the southern taiga subzone, the abandoned agricultural lands in the middletaiga subzone have passed through the stage of hayfields. It is shown that forest soils accumulate considerable carbon stock. Changes in views on the composition of organic matter in forest soils are characterized.
