Аннотация:The purpose of the article is to consider the content and evolution of relations between India and the United States of America from the moment of India's independence in 1947 to the present, to identify the stages of their development, the results and perspectives.Relations between India and the United States have passed through several stages; their result was the formation of a strategic partnership between the two countries.Research question: will the strategic partnership of India and the U.S. develop into the formation of a strategic (military-political) union of the two powers? The authors identify the economic, political and ideological factors of the formation of a strategic partnership between the two countries. The factors limiting the further deepening of this partnership are revealed. Among them: disagreements on some issues of international politics and the world order; India's unwillingness to play the role of a "younger brother" and defending its right to conduct a multi-vector foreign policy; the lack of US assistance in some important issues for India; and India's unwillingness to refuse to cooperate with Russia, in which the United States is interested. The factors that stimulate the deepening of the strategic partnership between India and the United States include the following: the dynamic growth of the Indian economy; the possible role of India as a balance against the growing influence of China in Asia; the common interest in preserving peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region; mutual interest in regional security and stability; the recently reached more understanding in nuclear policy; and expanding prospects for cooperation in a number of other areas. The article reveals the specific features of India's relations with the United States, which influence the nature of the existing strategic partnership. They are: the transition of emphasis from the political and strategic sphere to the sphere of economic interaction; India's desire to preserve the principle of "strategic autonomy" and the policy of non-alignment in the process of deepening cooperation; its ability to distinguish between political partnership and economic cooperation; and its preservation of the multi-vector nature of its foreign policy. The authors conclude that in the near future, the relations between the two powers are not likely to develop into a strategic (military-political) alliance, but they will remain at the stage of strategic partnership. The results of the study will allow stakeholders to predict the situation and adjust their policies in the South and Southeast Asia region.
