Аннотация:An analysis of 234 radiocarbon ages of Khvalynian sediments measured by researchers over morethan 50 years of study of the Caspian region is given. Most ages concern shells including endemic species of mollusks of the genus Didacna, which inhabited the Early to Late Khvalynian basins of the Caspian Sea. The radiocarbon ages of the Khvalynian Stage span a period of 46–8.3 cal. ka BP. The oldest ages correspond to the Khvalynian sediments of the Caspian Sea. Most ages correspond to a period of 17–12.5 cal. ka BP. The Early Khvalynian transgression started 40–35 ka. During 25–18 cal. ka BP, the coastline of the Early Khvanynian Basin was 10–15 m above sea level (a.s.l.), whereas the level of 20–22 m a.s.l. corresponded to the period of 17–13.5 cal. ka BP. The period after 12.5 cal. ka BP was characterized by regression and probably Enotaevka regression. The age of the Upper Khvalynian sediments of 11–8.5 cal. ka BP most likely corresponds to the period of the Late Khvalynian transgression. The period of the maximum phase (45–48 m a.s.l.) of the Early Khvalynian transgression is not currently determined from the available data.
