Аннотация:Genome structure in the four-toed newt was investigated by comparison of reassociation kinetics of short and long DNA fragments. The results obtained revealed two patterns of sequence interspersion in 1.8 kb stretches. The first one is represented by alternating sequences of different classes, the other one - by repeating sequences of a component with a mean frequency (repetition 5100) alternating with single copy sequences. Therefore certain part of the genome of the newt is of Xenopus type. Fraction of unique sequences which are not alternating with the repeating ones is equal to 6.4%, whereas their length is more than 1.8 kb. As revealed by the rate of DNA reassociation, the genome size in the four-toad newt is equal to 16.6 pg.
