The mathematical model (MM) of an object or a phenomenon and the question of its correspondence to reality are central to the notion of mathematical simulation and computational experiment. As a rule, the consistency of an MM is analyzed by comparing the results of properly matched actual and computational experiments. When an actual experiment with controlled input data is impossible, one may sometimes conclude, based on an analysis of only the output data of the experiment, that the MM is inconsistent. We introduce and discuss below the notion of reliability of an MM which allows us to characterize its consistency.
