Аннотация:Current investigation shows that ion beam irradiation can improve the surface functionality of carbon nanotubes by creating disorder sites. He+ ions with an energy of 100 keV and a fluence of 1 × 10^16 cm^–2 irradiated filters made of pressed multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Removal of Ni(II) from aqueous solutions using pristine and ion irradiated multi-walled carbon nanotube filters was investigated as a function of pH, initial Ni(II) concentration, filter weight, and contact time. For a 10 ppm Ni(II) concentration, irradiated filters showed a 99% increase in Ni(II) removal performance, implying that ion irradiated filter is a better Ni(II) adsorbent from aqueous solutions than pristine one. Irradiated filters are highly hydrophilic, have high solution flux and high absorption ability.
