Аннотация:A model explaining the work of a groin system from the viewpoint ofmass conservation law is presented. Sediment accretion in groin compartments isestimated in relation with gradients of alongshore sediment flux. Accumulation ratereaches its maximum when the step of groin system is close to the distance of groininfluence . If the step tends to 2 the accretion of material stops. The optimalrelationships between the step of groin system, groin length and width of sedimentflux have been obtained. The model allows operational prediction of accumulationvolume, beach width and downdrift erosion on time scales from hours until decades.The modeling results are in a reasonable agreement with published data.
