Impact of flow non-equilibrium in oxygen shock absorption analysisстатья

- Аннотация: The impact of rotational and vibrational non-equilibrium inside a 4.13 km/s dissociating oxygen shock wave on absorption cross sections in the Schumann-Runge band of O2 is examined. The direct simulation Monte Carlo method is applied to model the flow and obtain the energy distribution functions, and the non-equilibrium populations were then used to compute UV absorption spectra. The impact of vibrational non-equilibrium on absorption is found to be significant upstream of the location of the maximum vibrational temperature. The use of the Boltzmann distribution assumption to compute absorption spectra results in an order of magnitude underprediction as compared to the actual non-equilibrium populations. Evaluation of vibrational temperature from the ratio of absorption spectra at two different wavelengths is also impacted by non-equilibrium, with the resulting error bars as high as 100%. Computed non-equilibrium absorption spectra agree well with available measurements.
