Quantification of phytotoxic effects of detergents onplant species // Ecological Studies, Hazards, Solutions. 2021, Volume 27, p. 11-20.Powdered and liquid laundry detergents (PLLDs) are the worldwide abuse of synthetic chemical mixtures. Synthetic detergent contain surfactants, and other chemical components. The detergent components are considered as membranotropic substances, which can interact with biomembranes and cause cytotoxicity. Although the toxicity of many membranotropic components were investigated and reported, the integrated biological effects caused by some synthetic detergent mixtures on living organisms still remained unknown. Thus, lentils (Lens culinaris) and mung beans (Vigna radiata) were carried out to test PLLDs toxicity in the focus of seed germination (SG) and root elongation (RE). In the current study, certain papameters of toxicity were identified and studied. Percent germination seed (PGS, %) and root length (RL, mm), were measured. It was found that, as a result of effects of PLLDs, some changes in PGS and RL were observed. PGS (ca. 0%-60%, 72 h; 0%-65%, 96 h) and RL (ca. 0-4 mm, 72 h; 0-8 mm, 96 h) were on the decline as a progressive increase in the concentration (0.0% (control), 0.1%, 0.5% and 1.0%) of the PLLD studied.
