Аннотация:Seed potato tubers with cavities covered with black sclerotia were found in the Moscow region of Russia. Axenic fungal culture was isolated from a sclerotium. The fungus formed a white-grey mycelium after 4 days at 25C in 16/8 h light/dark cycle on 1.5% PDA, and abundant black sclerotia after 14 days. ITS1/2 rDNA and 28S LSU rRNA sequences (MT672566, MT672567, Genbank NCBI) had 97.95–100% similarity to Septotinia populiperda Waterman & E.K. Cash ex B. Sutton. This fungus is known as a pathogen of Populus and Salix leaves. When tested, the fungus formed lesions and sporulated on tuber slices, but did not infect whole intact potato tubers. It therefore appears to be a wound parasite. To our knowledge, this is the first report of S. populiperda on potato tubers.
