Аннотация:The possibility of the ionospheric propagation of MHD-disturbances caused by the equatorial electrojet is considered theoretically. The obtained dispersion relation indicates that, within the low-frequency range, only harmonics exponentially decreasing with distance can be present in the near-equatorial ionosphere. However, the characteristic scale of the amplitude decline for a mode of the type of large-scale surface wave proves to be larger than the ionospheric skin lengh and may reach a few thousand kilometers. At distances of about thousand km, phase shifts may attain values of 90 degrees or so. The disturbances induced by the equatorial electrojet can yield a noticable contribution to the composition of geomagnetic pulsations recorded at near-equatorial stations.
