Аннотация:The solar event of 23 July 2002 involving a Х4.8/2B flare and a fast halo coronal mass
ejection (CME) was remarkable for a number of observational features that remain still unexplained by existing models of magnetic topology, production ofaccelerated particles, and generation of gamma-radiation. We have carriedout a new complex analysis of observation
data with regard to the asymmetry of magnetic structures of both the flare and CME, and also to their dynamics near/far from radiation sources in various wavelength ranges.
The analysis enables us to propose a new model for the source of solar energetic parti
cles based on the mechanism of acceleration by vortex electric field near the extended top of a CME erupting coronal loop. Such a mechanism accelerates the particles (ions) up to energies of ~10–100 MeV. The ions seem to have sufficientlysoft spectrum (the differential exponent is ≥4–5) that may be important for production of de-excitation gamma-ray lines. Drifting to the base of an erupting arc acceleratedions are confined in a “probkotron” over a strong magnetic field of a sunspot. This confinement region may serve as a source of fast secondary neutrons with the prevailing fan-like velocity distribution. The latter essentially influences the parameters of the gamma-source at energyof 2.223 MeV (neutron capture line).
