Аннотация:Density waves in a differentially rotating homogeneous and isothermal gravitating disk are considered. It is shown that nonuniform galactic rotation causes a non-Jeans type of instability and that both nonpropagating (or matter) waves and propagating (or quasi-acoustic) waves are rendered unstable. The dispersion equation for each type of wave is analyzed, the effect of viscosity on the waves is examined, and the wave dynamics is discussed. The possible relation of these waves to spiral structure is investigated using examples involving the solar neighborhood and the AB-star subsystem of the Galaxy.
