A model for the isostatic compensation of the lithosphere and isostatic anomalies in the southern equatorial zone of the Atlantic and Indian oceansстатья

Аннотация:A nonformal three-dimensional model for the isostatic compensation of the lithosphere in the southern equatorial zone of the Atlantic and Indian oceans is suggested based on the data of regular surveys over the Angola-Brazil and Mascarene-Australia transoceanic geotraverses and the gravity data derived from satellite altimetry. While computing isostatic gravity anomalies, for the first time we used compensation models different for the large-scale and small-scale structures of the ocean floor. The large-scale structures are compensated at the expense of the density heterogeneity of the upper mantle within the model of a cooling lithospheric plate. The small-scale variations in the ocean topography are compensated accounting for the nonzero elasticity of the lithospheric plate. Both models are joined at a wavelength of about 200 km. In the structure of the isostatic anomalies of the region, one can clearly see the asymmetry of the structure of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, transform and extinct transform fault zones, and the major lineaments of the northeastern and northwestern directions. In the model of the density structure of the earth’s crust of the region calculated from the isostatic anomalies, we revealed numerous dislocations of the orthogonal (latitudinal-longitudinal) and diagonal (northeastern-northwestern) directions, which form a regular regmatic network and provide the fractal features of the structure of the oceanic lithosphere.
