Аннотация:Results of complex scientific experiment in Velikie Luki (town in Pskov region of Russia) in 2002 have been presented. The synchronous sounding of low atmosphere’s structure was carried out at airport near this town by means of sodar “ECHO-1”, tethered balloon, radiosondes and pilot balloons. Profiles of air temperature, relative humidity and ozone partial pressure were measured during 15 ascents of tethered balloon both at daily, and at nocturnal time. Dynamics of the low atmosphere thermal stratification was detected continuously by using the sodar sounding. Synoptic processes and a type of air mass, which dominated above Velikie Luki, have been analyzed.
The correspondence between air temperature profiles and the data of sodar records about both a type of stratification, and a height of surface inversion top has been found as very close. Thus, sodar records represent reliable data about the thermal stratification. It has been noted that cold advection of the Arctic air mass leads to more durability of the convective stratification. The example of dynamic destruction of the surface inversion by rotating propeller of an aircraft is presented.
The ozone profiles in low atmosphere seem to be clearly influenced by the thermal stratification. In time of daily convection the ozone partial pressure is nearly constant along all the range due to intense vertical mixing. Vice versa, at night the ozone changes significantly. Ozone usually sharply increases with a height inside inversion layers. A special point at ozone profiles, at which vertical gradient of ozone sharply changes, usually coincides margins of turbulent inversion structures on a sodar record, as a rule – an inversion’s top. Thus, a sodar record really indicates a height of the dynamical mixing. Examples of the ozone profiles have been presented.
