The possibilities of group sorption preconcentration of phenol, p-nitrophenol, o-nitrophenol, and 2,4-dinitrophenol on chemically modified silicas followed by the determination of phenols by using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) are shown. The effects of sorbent nature, acidity, supporting electrolyte, and flow rate on the degree of recovery of phenols from aqueous solutions were studied. The degree of recovery was examined as a function of the sample volume; the volumes of analyzed water that are optimum in concentration of phenols were calculated; and the sorption of phenols as a function of their concentration in the solution was determined. A procedure for simultaneous chromatographic determination of phenols in waters that includes the sorption preconcentration of phenols is proposed. © 1996 by MAEe cyrillic signK Hayκa/Interperiodica Publishing.
