Аннотация:An analysis of data from publications was carried out to identify the levels of serum 25(OH)D in apparently healthy individuals from the Russian Far North. A total of 2061 reports that pertain to various age and ethnic groups were included in the review. The 25(OH)D serum content and its age dynamics in the northerners living in towns are similar to that of the inhabitants of the parts of Russia with a moderate climate. There is no enough data on the age-related changes in the vitamin D status of the indigenous Arctic people leading close to traditional way of life. Serum 25(OH)D concentration in the population of high-latitude regions mirror the seasonal changes in the duration of daylight. The vitamin D levels are lower during the winter and reaches the minimum in February, right after the end of the polar night. A comparison of rural Russian and indigenous people has revealed ethnic differences in 25(OH)D concentrations, however the data on vitamin D status in various indigenous groups of the Russian North is scanty. We could not find publications that analyze 25(OH)D concentrations along with the direct assessment of food consumption. The available data do not contradict the opinion that the traditional food products are advantageous, but there are no studies to confirm it. The effect of the foods from marine mammal catch, marine and freshwater fishery, and venison on the vitamin D status of the indigenous people of the Russian North is under-researched.
