The study was carried out with the financial support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research in the framework of the research project No. 18-013-00623. Climate-geographical conditions of the south of the Russian Federation, where the activity is carried out on a shift basis can be called extreme. To these conditions, workers of the shift labor method of the south and north of the Russian Federation adapt differently. Therefore, the purpose of the study: to identify the features of psychological adaptation of workers of oil and gas companies in the south of the Russian Federation in comparison with the northern production facilities. To achieve this goal and objectives, a study was conducted in which 82 employees took part using the shift organization of labor in the south of the Russian Federation and 70 employees of the oil and gas production in the shift organization of labor in the north of Russia. Research methods: the study of documentation, observation, questioning and psychological testing, statistical methods of data analysis. The peculiarities of psychological adaptation of oil and gas workers in the south of the Russian Federation are a high level of manifestation of independence as a regulatory process. The peculiarities of psychological adaptation of oil and gas workers in the north of the Russian Federation are a high level of planning, modeling and evaluation of results as regulatory processes, as well as the average level of programming and flexibility. The identified features are directly related to the degree of group isolation in which workers are located: the higher its degree, the more workers are oriented to cooperate and help each other, the lower, the more they strive for independence and independence. © 2019, Society of Petroleum Engineers.
