Аннотация:Daily data on the pole’s position obtained by the International Earth Rotation and Reference Service (IERS.http://www.iers.org/products/176/11165/orig/eopc04.62-now) over the period from January 1, 1980 through March 27, 2002 are used in this work. The Liouville equation with a white noise on its right-hand side is analyzed. Its solution, presented as a 2-D normal stationary Markovian process, is written out. The observed motion of the pole is shown to be a Markovian process with discrete time. The inferred estimate of the mantle quality factor Q≈ 150 corroborates the legitimacy of the probability approach for the description of the pole’s motion, and the characteristic correlation time τ cor of processes affecting this movement is estimated at τ cor ≪ 100 days.
