Аннотация:
The opposite charges on polyelectrolytes in solution can react cooperatively with one another to form strong complexes [1-3]. The properties (phys icochemical, mechanical etc.) of these complexes differ considerably from the properties of the original components. Binary systems consisting of cooperatively bound macromolecules can in principle, be obtained by two methods, namely by mixing solutions of the polymeric components, or by matrix polymerization of a monomer in the presence of molecules of a polymer (the matrix) that are capable of reacting with the newly formed polymer [4-6]. It has been shown by the example of polymerization of methacrylic (MA) and acrylic acids on polyethyleneglycol (PEG) matrices [7, 8], that in the presence of a macromolecular matrix all the polymer chains propagate in contact with the matrix. This is because after a certain number of monomer molecules have been added to an active centre the growing chain reaches a critical length, at which point it becomes associated with a macromolecule of the matrix, and subsequently propagation continues on the matrix. Systems in which in addition to cooperative interaction of the matrix with the growing chain there is also fairly strong interaction between the matrix and the monomer are of much interest, because here considerable kinetic effects would be expected. © 1973.
