Аннотация:10 The ozonolysis of sodium lignosulfonate (LS) was studied by UV and IR spectroscopy and gel chromatography. The process was found to involve several transformations, namely, the destruction of LS aromatic nuclei with the formation of quinoid structures, the oxidation of these structures to acids, the cleavage of aromatic rings with the formation of muconic and other unsaturated acid derivatives, the oxidation of LS sulfo groups, and the oxidation of LS aliphatic groups. In addition, polymerization reactions with the formation of water-insoluble compounds free of sulfur occurred. The dependence of the relative optical density of IR absorption bands on ozonization duration was used to estimate the rate constants for the transformations of aromatic groups in two parallel reactions involving the oxidation of aromatic structures to quinoid compounds under the action of ozone and cleavage of aromatic groups with the formation of muconic acid.
