The structure of CuCl2 complexes with dimethylformamide in solution and on the surface of SiO2 was studied by spectral methods. The influence of the conditions of the formation of deposited systems such as the concentration of complexes in the solution-precursor and thermal treatment on their activity in metathesis of the C-CI bond in the CCl4-n-decane system was analyzed. The composition and the structure of the active form of the catalyst on the surface of SiO2 were shown to depend only slightly on the ratio between various types of complexes in the solution-precursor. Thermal treatment of the catalysts substantially decreased their activity. It was shown that, under reaction conditions, copper(II) underwent reduction to univalent copper, which was accompanied by reaction self-acceleration at the initial stage.
