Angular distributions of α-particle emitted by well-deformed 254Es nuclei and of γ-radiation from 250Bk nuclei resulting from the α-decay of 254Es were measured in the temperature interval 10- 1000 mK by the low-temperature nuclear orientation technique. Mixing ratios of α-waves with different angular momenta were obtained for the favored α-transition in the 254Es decay. The nuclear magnetic moment of the 254Es nucleus was determined for the first time. For the 250Bk nucleus contributions of angular momenta 0, 1, 2 to the once-forbidden β-transition 2 -→2 + were obtained and the E2/M1 mixing ratio for the 988-keV γ-transition was evaluated. © 2006 by Allerton Press, Inc.
