One of the main results of the studies of the lunar soil by spacecraft is the discovery of deposits of solid ice water. Water ice is retained in craters at the poles of the Moon, unreachable for rays of the Sun. The water molecules found in lunar rocks appear in different regions of the Moon. American geologists from the Carnegie Institution and Brown Universityfound in the lunar soil samples traces of water that was bleeding from the depths of the Moon in large quantities during the early stages of its formation. Perhaps, the frozen water deposits can be found in the depths of the lunar soil. Scientists believe that water can be found at a depth of tens of kilometers. Instruments on the LRO spacecraft showed that, under the surface of the Moon, there can be much more frozen water, and not only in shaded areas. It is unknown how deep below the surface water ice crystals are. as well as how difficult it will be to extract and process them into clean drinking water. The presence of water reserves would enable the supply of fuel and oxygen to habitable stations on the lunar surface. If there is sufficient water, the projects of construction of bases and natural resource mining facilities on the natural satellite of the Earth are a real prospect of the near future.
