Аннотация:The corrosion behavior and passivation of thin-film Fe-electrodes (thickness d approximately 50-200 nm) prepared by vacuum deposition on a nonconducting substrate in aqueous borate buffer solution with pH 8.4 are studied by means of electrochemical methods and resistometric and ellipsometric studies. It is established that with d exceeding the typical relief of the substrate the corrosion properties of a thin-film Fe-electrode almost coincide with those of solid metal. Basic models used for describing the surface condition of passive Fe are analyzed. Results of the analysis are compared qualitatively with the data of three independent methods used in the work. It is found that the model most preferred is that according to which a layer of trivalent oxide forms on passive Fe and reduction of it under galvanostatic conditions occurs in two stages: Fe (III) --> Fe(II) --> Fe(0).
