Аннотация:Mutant and wild strains of Anabaena variabilis differ substantially in the change in the levels of nitrogenase and glutamine synthetase activity during growth of the cultures. Processes of nitrogen fixation, accumulation of ammonium ions in the medium, and their assimilation occur in different phases of growth in the mutants ED81 and ED92. During the induction period of growth in cells of the mutants, the level of certain amino acids is increased: serine, glycine, glutamine, and glutamic acid. Exogenous ammonium in a concentration up to 10 mM has an inhibiting effect on nitrogenase biosynthesis by the strain ED81 and a repressive effect on the wild-type enzyme. The nitrogenase of the mutant ED81 is distinguished by higher resistance to the inhibiting action of ammonium ions and stability in comparison with enzymes of the strains ED92 and the wild type of A. variabilis.
