Аннотация:A practically sound approach to the evalution of non-local turbulence closures for the heat transport in convective boundary layers is suggested. This approach is based on the use of advection+diffusion parameterization for the flux of flux of potential temperature and of advection hypothesis for the flux of variance of potential temperature. This results in the second-order differential equation for the temperature flux. The operator of the problem in question is a linear self-adjoint operator. This provides a convinient tool to derive only a few first modes, which is sufficient to produce vertical profiles of the temperature flux, which are comparable with the predicted ones in high-resolution models. Empirical functions are used to compute the turbulence parameters. It was found that a rather good resolution (about 100 vertical layers) is needed to approximate the analytical solution fairly well. On the other hand, less than 10 modes are necessary to get an accuracy of 1 %.
