Аннотация:This paper describes a scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) with a cone-seal piezoelectric transducer that precisely moves the tip and electronics to control and interface with a computer. The conical transducer increases the resonant frequencies of the STM’s mechanical system considerably. The transducer conversion ratios are 180 angstrom/V in the XY plane and 45 angstrom/V along the Z axis. The STM’s spatial resolution is 0.2 angstrom along the Z axis and 1-2 angstrom in the XY plane.
