Аннотация:
The values of emf of the circuit Pt(H2) | 0.001 M HCl ⋮ 3.5 M MCl ⋮ 0.1 M HCl | Pt(H2) are measured in connection with the problem of the diffusion potential elimination; they amount to 37, 120, and 180 mV for M = H, K, and Li, respectively. This proves unequivocally the fallacy of theoretical notions that maintain that the elimination is caused by a salt bridge with any concentrated electrolyte, the ratio between transference numbers for the anion and cation notwithstanding. The data obtained in this work and some results published previously are analyzed in the framework of the Planck and Henderson theories. In the general case, the Planck equation is shown to have two solutions, one of which has no physical meaning, while the other is close to the solution of the Henderson equation. © 1998 MAHK Hayka/Interperiodica Publishing.
