Аннотация:The features of diamond crystals relate with variation of physical-chemical and thermodynamic conditions of growth environment and evolution. The studying of diamond from different kimberlite fields helped to reveal typomorphism of morphology and physical properties of diamonds.Morphology and physical properties for around 2000 diamonds have been examined from Arkhangelsk and Yakutian kimberlite pipes, and also from placers of Northern Yakutia. The shapes and colors of diamond crystals were studied by using of stereomicroscope and reflected light. Surface features were examined on scanning electron microscope JSM-T20. Optical spectra of absorption in the IR and UV- ranges were taken on the spectrophotometer MPS-2000.It was established that proportions of external forms vary for diamond crystals from different genetic sources. The studying of diamond from the Arkhangelsk kimberlite province and Northern Yakutian placers helped to reveal it’s typomorphism. The prevalence of rounded rhombododecahedra for diamond is established in comparison with the crystals from central part of Yakutian province and South African kimberlite pipes where the octahedra are the predominant primary forms. A higher proportion of diamonds from Arkhangelsk province and Northern Yakutian placers relative to central part of Yakutia and South African provinces are intensively frosted and contain etch channels. Studied diamonds from Arkhangelsk province and Northern Yakutian placers on average show slightly higher nitrogen, CO2 and H2O contents than the crystals from Yakutian and South African pipes.
