Аннотация:The main finding in heteroplasmy distribution between
aortic intimal tissue samples is the progressive increase of occurrence of
heteroplasmic mtDNA variants from unaffected intima to lipo
fibrous and fibrous plaques. It is consistent with the hypothesis of accumulation of
mutant mtDNA copies in the affected tissue and the possibility of somatic
origin of mtDNA heteroplasmy because of altered mitochondrial function
and ROS production. This hypothesis appears plausible on preposition that
atherogenesis is associated with increased oxidative stress.
