Аннотация:The main cause of soil`s agrodegradation in Chernozem landscapes is an imbalance of the
carbon budget, consisting of 3-6 fold decrease of plant residues and humus input to the soil due to plowing and the removal of organic carbon with agricultural products. A distributed model that combines surface and root carbon sources, convection, dispersion, and linear kinetics of biodegradation of the humus, predicts carbon losses of 30-50% in the surface layer over the first 100-200 years of agricultural use, later, however, this process does not stop and extends to deeper soil horizons, resulting in a gradual mineralization over 70% of its original stock of humus in the whole soil profile. Together with organic carbon Chernozems lose part of their water-holding and absorption capacity and their unique
aggregate structure. Worsening of root nutrition and plant productivity occurs. In order to solve the problem it is necessary to legislate the special status and responsibility of land use in the Chernozem zone, to introduce mandatory soil conservation technologies and periodic rotation of arable and fallow lands with the organization of forest belts and steppe corridors.
