Аннотация:By simulating hadronic cascades induced in iron by protons and He nuclei with energies above 1 TeV, the effect of albedo particles in an iron absorber on the shape of the longitudinal cascade profile has been studied in connection with the problem of locating the primary
interaction event. The optimum reference values of a specific energy deposition in a cascade that correspond to the most probable position of the primary interaction event have been determined, which makes it possible to minimize errors in its location. A probabilistic method for locating the primary interaction event in finite-thickness absorber layers has been developed. This method has been applied to actual cascades initiated by high-energy cosmic rays. The results obtained under various model assumptions about inelastic nuclear interactions have been compared.
