Аннотация:The results of automatic interpretation of virgin soils within solonetzic complexes in the Northern Caspian region conducted on the basis of the Quickbird spaceborne imagery are given in this article. Soils have been automatically discriminated using two parameters: the values of NDVI and the values of reflection in the near-infrared (NIR) band. Thus, meadow chestnut soils have high NDVI values (>0.13) and high reflectance values in the NIR band (>370); light chestnut soils are characterized by low NDVI values (<0.13) and high reflectance values in the NIR band (>370); solonetzes have low NDVI values (<0.13) and low reflectance values (<370) - which underlies the algorithm of automatic interpretation of soils in the studied area. The accuracy of interpretation is 80%. The soil map created has been analysed in terms of the pattern of soil cover. Computer analyses of the portion and areas of soil polygons has been conducted.
