Course description
The main emphasis is made on contemporary America, its beliefs, values, traditions, geography, political and economic situation, education, religious and social life etc. This course focuses on highlighting of the U.S. regions peculiarities; it also stimulates cross-cultural approach to American studies.
Course objective:
to develop the adequate level of professional competencies in regional studies;
to develop regional analysis skills based on political, historical, demographic, ethnic and cultural peculiarities of the region in question with the help of new ICT tools;
to stimulate interdisciplinary approach to regional studies.
Course aims:
to highlight and analyze cultural, economic, political and administrative units and regions of the U.S., political and governmental structure, state vs federal governments relationship, their duties and powers, demographic and immigration patterns of the country, the system of education, religious life, linguistic situation today, etc.
to develop skills of analysis of the U.S. regions from the point of view of their cultural, historical, economic, political and demographic development;
to develop skills to contrast and compare Russian and American phenomena;
to develop skills to search for, analyze and generalize regional web resources.
